New York: Everyday New American Sportswear

Although I have a broad likening for all sorts of styles, I have to say I (and most people) dress in what I would call "new american sportswear". I love tomboy looks (nice trousers, blazers, boyfriends sweaters/carids, vests, plaids) and try to take cues from these kind of NY designers.

London: Young at Heart

I love London shows because of all the bright young designers that show collections obviously geared to the younger customer. It's all about reinvented street style, the modern girl who doesn't want her mom to share her look or even understand it.

Milan: Flashy ≠ Trashy

I think the past year has proved flashy does not neccessarily translate into trashy. 80s fashion (sequins, big shoulders, bold lips) and the rise of fancy footwear (crazy heels + embellished Louboutins). I see for 2010, the "flashy" idea is shifting: bright colors, jumbo sequins, and fancy cut-outs. And what other city could possibly display flashy at its best?

Only in Paris: niche designers

What I love about Paris shows is the fact that they don't have to hold back. All the crazy artistic ones, the Japanese ones, and the ones that nobody really gets are held in Paris. But in comparison to the past, shows like Gareth Pugh and Comme des Garcons have seriously toned down this season. I wish I could get my hands on a piece of Spring's Yohji Yamamoto...

The 30-40 something working lady in NYC look

I just realized that the Fall2010 womens shows are in just a few weeks and I still haven't uploaded all the Spring2010 stuff I wanted to post...crap! Theres just alot that I loved and wanted to write about. Now I think I'll just rush through putting up my picks.

Calvin Klein: Fransisco Costa has turned the Calvin Klein collection into something simple and luxurious, and I personally think played a huge role saving the diluted brand name. Any woman would dream once of wearing a clean wispy dress designed by him. Look how pretty the spring dresses are!

Donna Karan: Not something I would wear now, but something I would love to see more women wear. Ever since last season (her amazing fall collection), I've been looking at her collections more seriously than I ever have before.

Narcisco Rodriguez: Funny how it all ties in but Narcisco Rodriguez worked under the Calvin Klein and Donna Karan label before launching his own.

Vera Wang: I took my mom to a Vera Wang sample sale because I wish my mom dressed in her clothes. The dark blue-black palette, the simple straight lines, and the quality fabrics are all what makes Vera Wang's collection covetable. In alot of photos taken of Vera, shes wearing her stuff head to toe and it always looks so rich and polished.

Just Thoughts

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

What do you think about friends who you invite to your birthday function and they don't get you a gift or offer to pay a portion of the birthday dinner (basically you treat them)?

Or friends that you give (nice) birthday gifts to, but you've never received something from them?

Also, what do you think about friends that crash at your place and expect this and that, borrow this and that, then leave without treating you to lunch or some small gesture?

This would never occur to me, but if you're in a group setting with your guy and gal pals, why should guys have to pay the tab? Shouldn't girls pitch in their share if its not a one-on-one date setting (and especially if you're all friends)?

Is it just poor upbringing? Is it acceptable because they "just don't know"? Is it OK because they are just still young and learning social skills? Do older people act this way too? Am I just being petty? Or does someone (like me) have to address the rudeness for it to be actually pondered?

Pre-Fall 2010

I haven't even put up all my personal reviews and opinions about Spring 2010 shows, but here are my picks from the pre-fall roundup:

Kiehl's

Kiehl’s products I use and love
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Ultra Facial Cream: I use this at night after using toner and serum. I love how it has no scent, lightweight, yet very moisturizing (it doesn’t seem like a cream!) When I went to the Kiehl’s counter, I tried the Ultra Facial Moisturizer and the cream, but surprisingly the cream felt more lightweight. It’s really for everyone- funny that my mom also uses it, and boys can use it as well!

Pineapple Papaya Facial Scrub: Like most Kiehl’s products, there isn’t any overwhelming scent in this one either. I use it when I feel like my skin is dry and is in need of a good scrub. It is nothing like St. Ives’ Apricot Scrub because the Kiehl’s one is really concentrated and leaves the skin feeling like it has been exfoliated and thoroughly moisturized.

Rare Earth Deep Pore Daily Cleanser: I got this because I met a friend I haven’t seen in a long time in Soho and saw that she purchased this. I noticed her skin had cleared up a lot and she was telling me that this actually works. Just to add on to the persuasion, she is a thrifty shopper, not characteristic to buy all sorts of beauty products for herself. So I had to get it, of course!

Kiehl’s products on my next shopping list

Acai Damage-Repairing Serum: Since last summer, I’ve started using serums, those that target on renewing skin cells (to fade acne scars!) This serum interests me because it is concentrated with Acai berry and is certified organic.

Brightening Botanical Cleansing Cream: I love cleansing creams because you get to rub on a lotion-type substance on your face, wash it off with water, and voila, your makeup is all gone! I always double-cleanse at night anyway, so I use a foaming cleanser afterwards. Anyway, this is supposed to brighten the skin and minimize pores.

Ultra Moisturizing Cleansing Cream: I would also like to try this cleansing cream because it is in a jar (like traditional “cold creams” and would be ideal to use in the winter, since it is made for very dry skin types.

* Although I love a lot of Kiehl’s products, I don’t like the whole Blue Herbal Collection. I’ve used the toner and the moisturizer; it’s very harsh and smells a bit funky as well.
