Still Swooning over NY shows: Proenza Schouler and Preen

Anna Wintour chose the wrong season/year to fly to London for their fashion week, because so far, NY shows > London shows by alot. Usually I love London shows more, but my favorite designers disappointed, or just didn't step it up for the Spring 2010. Not to mention, CondeNast is supposed to 25% of its budget which includes travels, hotels, transportation, and of course employees...

I know its still London fashion week, but how amazing was Proenza Schouler? and Preen (thank you for moving to new york)? Fucking beautiful.

I can't really put my finger on a specific theme but thats what makes it special. Its like animal print, but exotic insects color, bug-eye glasses, then the whole bleachy hair, and the knit ikat-like dresses, the reconstructed shirtdress, like what the hell is going on? but its so put-together at the same time. Proenza Schouler does draw to a younger crowd, and this crowd I know will spend - are already probably eager to get their hands on almost everything here.

Preen played it more safe with a smooth transition from last season, sticking to their signature aesthetic, but really giving what the Preen customer wants: a power dress that turns both women's and men's heads, fashion or non-fashion people's attention.

More Balenciaga-esque shows: Ohne Titel and Thakoon

However, I am not complaining. Thakoon was one of my favorite shows this season from New York, I don't care what other people had to say. It was beautiful. And the reference to Balenciaga is so morphed that its their own I say. You can see it but you can't say that about every piece, or even as a whole outfit. Its there but there is room for disagreement.

Ohne Titel has alot of good elements going around this collection, like the juxtaposition of constructed vs. draping, all in one jacket; the tight pant vs. the loose lounge pants; and body-conscious dress vs. the body-covering top + skirt. Those lace-up sandals that go all the way to the thighs are drool-worthy.

If anyone knows how to be fun and chic at the same time with prints, its Thakoon. I am especially in love with the beige jodphurs with the blue screenprint only on top. I like how it is styled with a simple black tee as well, just perfectly stylish and comfortable all at the same time!

Solid Collections from NY: 3.1 Phillip Lim and Rodarte

You know the level to expect from Phillip Lim and the Rodarte girls every season. And they don't disappoint. I love the consistency they bring, never disappointing and staying true...actually, I did see some Rodarte-ish dresses from Phillip Lim and some Balenciaga-ish top+bottom combo at Rodarte. There are too many designers that pull from Balenciaga it can almost be dismissed.

There is something for every occassion for the Lim girl. In the rain (red trench), in the day (dress with grey sweater on top), at work (black dress under white vest), something edgy (leather jacket), something fun (silver sequined blazer), and of course, the cocktail dress for parties.

I have this recent fascination with tattoos, and those tribal prints on the skin with dark lips look so cool. Their clothing is always like a piece of art you just want to see and feel in person to appreciate it to the fullest. I loved! Though the only one thing is that it is a bit dark for a spring collection...

Alexander Wang and Alexandre Herchcovitch love American Football

Start off with my thoughts of A.Wang's show:
  • Disappointed. Football, really? why?
  • Show order should have started with his black pieces, it would have linked his previous collections with this collection better.
  • I still can't decide whether I will end up obsessing or getting sick of it, or both.
  • The hair and shoes were cute. Actually I am in love with the three-tone leopard shoes and plan to buy them when they hit stores.
  • Long socks with elastic on back? weird.

In the meantime, Alexandre Herchcovitch's interpretation on football felt more sophisticated, and limited his literal takes with the football clutch and big shoulders, while stylizing everything else. I loved the bright colors and many of the pieces I could just imagine being used in future editorials.
