Milan Me!

The weather is getting really warm in NYC, so I might not want to think about fall/winter clothes again for awhile...so Alessandro Dell'Acqua lost rights to his name, so he came back even stronger with a beautiful fall collection under the new label name No21. I am especially in love with his use of beige & coffee colors, accented with baby blue and bright pink. I wish he extended into handbags, I wonder what he would pair with these looks!

Another highlight of Milan was the jetsetter/traveler look of Moschino Cheap & Chic. It was in perfect conjunction with the opening of the hotel Maison Moschino in Milan. More than the clothes, I loved the emotion of the show, and all the clever props as well.

And of course, Dolce & Gabbana. Here we see the big idea fabrics again: lace, velvet, lightweight mixed with super heavyweight. I want to own every single look I have picked out below!

My Five Picks from Paris

My favorites really didn't match the ones that the fashion editors rave about time...like Lanvin, Dries van Noten, Celine...Paris has too many good shows for everyone to have the same favorites anyway!

Christian Dior: I usually don't like Dior but I loved this season. Soft and romantic, like a Camilla Akrans editorial. The poufy hair and shoes were all so pretty too!

Stella McCartney: Alot of the pieces were what women wanted to wear to work. Effortless, clean, crisp, and elegant. The color palette was quite perfect for it as well - the right beige, grey, and black.

Haider Ackermann: I finally got to see his piece up-close at Jeffreys in the meatpacking area, and I truly believe his pieces justify the price. I am in love with those long skirts and dresses with a bold cut right in the middle.

Valentino: The pieces that stood out the most in this show were the ruffled coats. Valentino suddenly seems wearable. With all those ruffles, strangely it doesn't seem overdone in any single look.

Louis Vuitton: Yes finally Marc Jacobs! Beautiful practical dresses for the target market that will buy RTW. I would really like to know how their RTW business does to last year after this season is done selling.

Fall 2010: The Accessory Report

These are the BEST from the Fall 2010 shows. If I had to choose one, I would have to get the Givenchy black lace-up booties (left) or the John Galliano timb-like booties (middle).

My Top 5 NY Shows for Fall10

1. Thakoon: I am in love with the various textures Thakoon layered on, while still using a basic color palette. The textures aren't only in the wools, silk chiffon, velvet, and jerseys, he also uses different kind of furs...and gosh all the pieces are just pretty.

2. Alexander Wang: Alexander Wang is constantly rethinking basics and I feel this collection was one of his very strong ones. Seeing reconstructed suits the Wang way is almost an intellectual experience. And I do love love love velvet. This past fall I bought black velvet pants, black velvet dress, and a creme velvet dress. I'll still be wearing it next fall!

3. Preen: Those cut-off turtleneck sweaters that only really cover the shoulders and nothing below really triggered the "I want that in my wardrobe" part of my brain. The cut-out dresses continue to be a big idea next fall I see as well.

4. Rodarte: If I were to get married in the winter, I would want my wedding dress to be from this collection. I like that they used a wintry white, it seemed more lighthearted than their past stuff. Again, its about layering various textures, but of course in the Mulleavy sisters perspective.

5. Jason Wu: Theres something about his clothes that you can just visualize real women wearing them. I just loved his dresses referencing to the Christian Dior New Look. The dresses are all in this pale pink color, and that is one of my favorite colors for dresses. I realized this when I was looking in my closet...

Neil Barrett Rocks My Socks

I became familiar with Neil Barrett through his mens collection, but this fall, its his womens collection that blew me away. I love Neil Barrett's construction on outerwear, he really understands construction and practicality. I am a fan of boyish cuts, and he really got it down this season with a sexy touch. Check out his stuff, I even added some of the bad boys so you can really soak up his designs.

p.s. I also am needing those lace-up open mid-calf boots!

Ice Princess

Thursday night I stayed up late (meaning midnight) to watch the Womens Figure Skating Olympics. Kim Yuna won GOLD! + she set the world record score. I've always watched figure skating in the winter olympics and gymnastics in the summer olympics. It will be unforgettable that a gal from Korea won a medal in one of my two favorite olympic sports.

I also wanted to post my first Fall 2010 fashion presentation from NY: none other than Marchesa! Kim Yuna needs to wear one of these. (or Georgina Chapman needs to hire her as the main model)
